Letter from the Costa's

Well I am over in Spain for a few days just to have a break from work pressure.

I am staying in Javea at the north end of the Costa Blanca, which is a beautiful small town, in an area similar to some of the Italian coastlines.

You can stay in the town or in some of the new developments 10 mins from the beach, or, on some of the established Villa settlements running up the hills on the south coast road on the way to Moraira. A trip worth taking just to enjoy the scenery.

Today I watched the fishing vessels come home to the Javea port and unload their catch. There were some characters that have obviously been working in the industry for many years. You can imagine their craggy weather worn faces sitting on your lounge wall.

Just a few hundred yards away is a nice beach, which will allow me to sunbathe for a couple of hours and read my book. 84° in November is not bad.

Lost a bit of time as I fell asleep on the beach but no need to worry typically the bars and Restaurants are open till late so I will just saunter down at 8 o’clock sit outside in the still warm air, naughtily consuming a bottle of their very much improved Rioca wines.

Well after a couple of glasses, I remind myself that I am a bit peckish, and order a nice big steak with a peppercorn sauce and some of those great big beef tomatoes that Spain is famous for.

That was nice but I now need to stretch my legs, so, I stroll down the excellent beach walkway passing other holidaymakers obviously enjoying the warm breeze coming in from the Mediterranean Sea.

On my way back I now fancy a coffee, well why not with a brandy as well.

I am sure I will sleep well tonight.

Where will I go tomorrow?

Things to do in Spain

Try Tapas

It is one of the Best and most uniquely Spanish experiences is to sit in a bar in the evening and eat tapas while you have a drink.

Sit outside in a cafe and watch the world go by!

Spain's villages, towns and cities all have numerous cafes’ when you can sit outside, enjoy a coffee and simply watch the world passing by. It is made all the better by the weather which is usually fine.

Take part in a local village fiesta.

The local fiestas are mostly religious in nature, but that doesn’t mean that they aren’t a lot of fun. The colourful processions are worth it in themselves, and the parties usually go on throughout the night.

Best Beaches – Costa Blanca

This southeastern coast embraces the industrial city of Valencia, but its Best-known resorts, Benidorm and Alicante, are packed with northern-European sun-seekers every year. The surrounding scenery isn’t particularly dramatic, but the water is turquoise, the sand is white, and a low annual rainfall virtually guarantees a sunny vacation.

Water Sports

Jet Ski. Wave Riders, Water Skiing, Sailing as well as Rubber Ring & Banana Fun Rides are available all along the Costa Blanca.  You can also have comfortable and enjoyable sea cruses, sightseeing or fishing.

Horse Riding

For those who enjoy the thrill of the relationship with horses and combine it with exploring new landscapes book your sessions at a near by stable.

LA MANGA

La Manga is a strip of sand 21 kilometres long and an average of 300metres wide with the Mediterranean Sea on the one side and the Mar Menor (an inland saltwater lagoon) on the other. This offers the holidaymakers a choice of beach according to the prevailing wind. There are many accommodation opportunities for holidaymakers and investors alike with hotels, villas and apartments along the length of the “Strip” as it is popularly known.

The Mar Menor is ideal for water sports with the Tomas Maestre Harbour and the Sticks Tip Port and a maximum depth of only 8 metres and the protection of the “Strip” against inclement weather. It is also ideal for children with a minimum water temperature of 18º and gentle swell. Average air temperatures range from 26º in summer to 17º in winter making this an extremely pleasant area.

TORREVIEJA

Torrevieja is an extremely popular and busy town with very many bars and restaurants. It is also a very important commercial centre with many banks, solicitors, accountants situated there.

This is not the resort for those wanting a quiet life and is populated by quite a lot of English people both holidaymakers and residents. It is a hive of activity with a busy harbour, tennis clubs, a flying club and, of course, water sports.

There are a number of very good golf courses, Villamartin, Campaomor, Las Ramblas and the newly constructed La Finca, within very easy reach. For those wanting to explore the area there are many excursions available to a whole range of locations and activities.

There is a street market held on the seafront area with local craft products available together with many clothing stalls.

Getting to Torrevieja is very easy with the airports of  Murcia and Alicante within 45 kilometers.

VILLAMARTIN

Smaller than its near neighbour, Torrevieja, Villamartin is another vibrant village with fine beaches at La Zenia, Cabo Roig and Campuamor all within easy reach.

A 35 minute drive to Alicante airport and 20 minutes to Murcia airport make it very easily accessible

There is a very busy square which offers a whole range of gastronomic delights from its many bars and restaurants.

Like many Costa Blanca resorts, golf figures prominently and the courses of Villamartin, Campaomor, Las Ramblas and La Finca are all in close proximity.

There are many apartments and villas available for the holidaymaker to enjoy and the very healthy climate makes it an ideal venue.

Murcia

The region of Murcia, located between the Community of Valencia and Andalucia, was the site of powerful Carthaginian and roman settlements in antiquity, while the long presence of the Moors determined its history throughout the Middle Ages. Famous today for its excellent fruit and vegetables, its coast is another major Spanish tourist zone.
Murcia, the capital of the region, is located inland.
Cartagena is the leading port in Murcia. Founded by the Carthaginians in 221 BC and originally named Carthago Nova, Cartagena has maintained its importance through the centuries. Its museum has excellent pre-Roman and Roman collections that testify to the transcendence of the great historical role-played by the city.
La Costa Calida (The Warm Coast) rims the region of Murcia. Its climate is particularly temperate and it has fine-sand beaches. Of special interest is the Mar Menor, a salt-water lagoon that is part of the Mediterranean and is especially apt for certain water sports. Its most important tourist centres are: Santiago de la Ribera, La Manga del Mar Menor, Puerto de Mazarron, Aguilas and Cartagena.

Valencia

This Mediterranean region, located south of Cataluña, is famous for its magnificent orange groves and the beauty of its long beaches. There has been a harmonious blending of Mediterranean traditions here while the centuries of Moorish presence have resulted in a profound Hispano-Moorish heritage.
Valencia is the capital of the region. It is world famous for its unique fiesta of Saint Joseph, known as "Las Fallas", when enormous papier-mâché sculptures are set ablaze. The city has a priceless Gothic-style architectural heritage, including the Lonja and El Miguelete, the cathedral bell tower.
The Valencian Coast lies alongside the capital, and a short distance away are two enormous beaches. It also includes other tourist centres such as Cullera, Gandia and Oliva.
Alicante, the capital of the province of the same name, is the second most important city in the Community of Valencia. Located south of Valencia, the city has two large beaches and is dominated by the great Moorish castle of Santa Barbara, with its marvellous view of the entire date-tree-dotted city.
La Costa Blanca, which runs alongside the region of Alicante, is one of the most popular tourist zones in Spain thanks to its excellent installations and magnificent, large, fine-sand beaches.
Benidorm is one of the most important tourist cities in Spain. It has two splendid, well maintained beaches, an excellent hotel infrastructure and nightlife full of attractions.
Other important tourist centres of the Costa Blanca are Denia, Javea, Moraira, Calpe, Santa Pola, Guardamar de Segura, Torrevieja and Campoamor.

Of special interest in this zone is the Rock of Ifach in Calpe, an enormous rocky spur jutting out into the sea. It is one of the most impressive natural formations on the Mediterranean coastline.
